At least 21 people have been killed and 42 injured after a car bomb targetting Shia pilgrims exploded in a suburb of Baghdad, Saturday, according to official security and medical sources.
The car bomb was reportedly parked on a road in the suburb of Nahrawan and targetted Shia pilgrims on route to the shrine of Imam Musa al-Kadhim in northern Baghdad. Kadhim was the seventh of 12 revered Imams in Shia Islam and his death in 799 AD is commemorated each year, with thousands expected to travel to the shrine by foot over the coming days.
